AKARTA: To cater to rising demand and ease slaughterhouse relocations, the Jakarta administration will add eight city-appointed slaughterhouses to the five already operating.
Governor Fauzi Bowo said the city had received proposals for the additional slaughterhouses. “We see them as feasible, but I’m ordering my subordinates to study and examine whether the proposed locations and buildings fulfill our standards,” Fauzi said.
The city has also been working to consolidate fowl slaughterhouses to just a few location, as mandated by a 2007 bylaw on bird control.
Five city-appointed slaughterhouses are located in Rawa Kepiting, Cakung and Pulo Gadung in East Jakarta; Petukangan in South Jakarta, and the privately owned PT Kartika Eka Dharma in West Jakarta. The additional slaughterhouses would be located in Kramat Jati in East Jakarta, Kalideres in West Jakarta and Senen in Central Jakarta.
