AKARTA: The Jakarta administration has approved a proposal by bus operator Kopaja to increase the fares for its air-conditioned minibuses from the current Rp 2,000 to Rp 5,000 (55 US cents).
City Transportation Agency chief Udar Pristono said that Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo had signed a decree last week regarding non-economy class fares.
“The hike is allowed so the bus operator can continue the improvement of their bus fleet,” Pristono said.
Kopaja launched its new line of air-conditioned minibuses in August, a move hailed as a breath of fresh air for the city’s transportation by replacing the old, unreliable Kopaja vehicles.
The air-conditioned buses, which carry the number Kopaja AC S-13, serve the Ragunan, South Jakarta — Grogol, West Jakarta route.
