AKARTA: National Pornography Prevention and Management Task Force chairman Agung Laksono says the task force will focus on mulling policies to counter pornography and improve inter-institutional coordination, but will not enforce the law.
The comment was made following criticism that the task force would overlap with police work in the field. Another concern was that the task force was merely an effort by the government to divert the public’s attention from the fuel-price hike.
“It is obvious that law enforcement authority remains in the hands of the law enforcers,” Agung told The Jakarta Post at the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response conference in Jakarta on Thursday.
The task force was recently formed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, with the aim of tackling the wide distribution of pornographic material throughout the archipelago.
