adiun: Eighteen prisoners with prison terms of over 15 years in Madiun, East Java, have been transferred to Nusakambangan Penitentiary in Cilacap, Central Java, for security reasons.
Madiun Penitentiary’s warden, Wahidin, said on Saturday that the transfer was carried out by security personnel early on Friday morning.
The transfer was deemed necessary as the maximum security penitentiary in Madiun had surpassed its maximum capacity.
“The penitentiary is designed to accommodate 560 prisoners, but now has over 1,400, or nearly three times its capacity,” he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
