he Golkar Party will announce the running mate of its presidential candidate Aburizal Bakrie early next year.
“Aburizal will announce the name in early 2013,” Golkar secretary-general Idrus Marham said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
On Sunday, a national leadership meeting of Golkar gave Aburizal the prerogative to name a running mate.
Aburizal himself is reported to have not been able to pick his running mate.
Last week, the Golkar leadership said it would select a family member of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as a running mate for Aburizal.
Golkar central board member Priyo Budi Santoso said the party was considering picking Army chief of staff Gen. Pramono Edhie Wibowo or even First Lady Ani Yudhoyono as Aburizal’s running mate in the 2014 presidential election.
Executives of the Democratic Party say that they have not ruled out collaborating with Golkar in the 2014 presidential election.
