amasa: The death toll in Thursday’s flash flood and landslide that hit Kabanniran hamlet, Sumarorong district, Mamasa regency, West Sulawesi, has reached 15, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said on Monday.
A spokesman from the agency’s branch in Makassar, Hamsidar, said that the death toll could climb further as the Search and Rescue (SAR) team continue efforts to find two missing people, identified as Mettang, 9, and Risto, 12.
The SAR team had faced difficulties in its search for the missing victims, he said. “The terrain is too vast and communication is flawed due to bad reception,” Hamsidar said as quoted by tempo.co.
South Sulawesi police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Endi Sutendi said that the search and rescue process had been hindered by power outages. “We had been without electricity until Monday,” he said.
