Comments: Local durians dominate as imports halted

F

em>Feb. 2, p. 1

What would the Big Durian be without the fruit itself?

Following the Agriculture Ministry’s regulation last year banning the importation of 13 horticultural and agricultural products — durians, pineapples, honeydews, bananas, mangos, papayas, potatoes, cabbages, carrots, chili, chrysanthemums, orchids and heliconia — Jakartans are relying on the local variety of the sickly sweet-smelling, thorny fruit, dubbed the king of fruit.

Your comments:

I am a local durian lover. It tastes much nicer than imported ones.

I 100 percent agree with the government regulating the import of fruit including durians.

S Bachri

I beg to disagree there, the local durian is wet and the stones are big and you don’t get a lot for your money whilst the imports are better and you get more durian and less stone for your money so what happens when the local durian runs out which it will do, will it be as big mess as the imported beef
fiasco?
