usic producer Erwin Gutawa and his daughter, singer Gita Gutawa, have released a children’s compilation album entitled Di Atas Rata-rata (Above Average).
Erwin said the album included songs from various musical genres that were sung by 13 young performers.
“I wanted the album to be colorful with a lot of genres, including traditional music. And the kids sing the songs according to their respective vocal characters,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
For example, he said, Noni sings a jazz song; Dian sings a classic standard; Ari performs pop; and Woro is a sinden (gamelan singer).
Although the album showcases performance by children aged between 9 and 13, Erwin said he was as serious about it as any of his other albums.
“They’ve got great talent, so I treated them like other professional singers, like Chrisye or Krisdayanti, during the album-making process,” he said.
The main track on the album, Jangan Remehkan (Don’t Underestimate), was written by Gita.
