The image of Indonesiaâs military is being increasingly tarnished
he image of Indonesia's military is being increasingly tarnished.
Less than a month after Army's Special Forces (Kopassus)members breached a prison and killed four detainees, Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers allegedly attacked the Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) headquarters.
Of course, the public must look at the events that took place objectively. The incident at the PDI-P office and Cebongan were ignited by personal issues, not by problems from within the military itself.
The way these soldiers 'helped' or provided backup for one another, raises questions about Korsa ' the corps spirit of togetherness.
Korsa was a theory by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Esprit de corps. It is all about loyalty, team spirit and collective consciousness. A sense of loyalty is not limited to the corps (units) per se, but more broadly.
Loyalty means that every action and deed should be a major contribution to the environment, as well as to the nation.
Forces should be a single unit to win the battle. However, the practice of the corps spirit must be appropriate to the circumstances and should not be implemented as communalism or bullying.
There is still much work to be done, not only by the military but also the entire nation, including at legislative level and the Defense Ministry.
The police should actually enforce the laws related to violence such as bullying.
The scuffle at the PDI-P office was a pure crime. The incident proved that the deliberation to revise the military tribunal bill should not be delayed any further.
