Police say Australian tourist raped in Bali

I

ndonesian police are searching for a man who allegedly raped an Australian woman at knifepoint inside her villa on the resort island of Bali.

Local police chief Capt. Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan said Monday that the 28-year-old woman was attacked Saturday while vacationing with her family near popular Kuta beach.

He said a man broke into her room while she was sleeping, forcing her to open the safety box. After finding it empty, he allegedly raped her and stole three iPads, two cellphones and $154 in cash.

Attacks against foreigners are rare in Bali. However, two Japanese women were killed and one was raped in 2009. The latest attack comes after two high-profile rape cases in India, one involving a Swiss tourist, have sparked outrage and heightened concern among female travelers.
