akarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has thrown his weight behind city-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya to retain its right to operate the Blok A shopping center in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, amid a legal dispute with private operator PT Priamanaya Djan International (PDI).
"We will appeal should the East Jakarta District Court rule in favor of PT PDI. We already have an investigative audit report issued by the BPKP [Development Finance Comptroller]," he said over the weekend as quoted by kompas.com. "We will do whatever we can to retain our assets," he added.
The right to operate Blok A is currently in limbo, as PDI filed a lawsuit against the Jakarta administration regarding the problematic joint working contract between the company and PD Pasar Jaya.
In the lawsuit, PDI demanded the right to operate Blok A until 95 percent of the total outlets were sold and within a period of 20 years, while PD Pasar Jaya aimed to assume full control of the shopping center. The initial contract ended in 2008, but was extended to 2009.
The BPKP estimates that the state faces losses of up to Rp 179.56 billion (US$18.71 million) in unrealized revenue due to the dispute.
