Putting it briefly: WISCI are JCA Champions

J

AKARTA: Defending champions WISCI thrashed Bogor Cricket Club to win the '€œCup'€ finals of the Apple Coal JCA League 2012-2013, to lift the trophy for the second time in succession.

In a one sided final at Cibubur, WISCI again did what they have been doing to their opposition the entire season '€“ this time thrashing Bogor by a massive 132 runs. Man of the match David Holme ripped apart the Bogor batting line up with a career best and JCA best eight wickets for 11 runs. Electing to bat first, WISCI found themselves struggling against a tight Bogor bowling. From 69/2 in 12 overs, WISCI slumped to 118/5 in 24 overs before being bowled out for 166 in 35 overs. Rajeev Rajeswaran (29), JP LeRiche (26) and William Noronha (24) chipped in with useful contributions for WISCI. For Bogor, Eki Antaria took four wickets while Scott Masson took three wickets.

In the lunch break, Bogor would have fancied their chances chasing 167 for victory as this was the lowest total WISCI had been bowled out at, this season. But what ensued after lunch was a procession by the Bogor batsmen '€“ each going into bat and coming back equally quick. In 13 overs, WISCI bowlers lead by David Holme had polished off Bogor for a paltry 34 runs. Asghar Ali scored 15 runs.

'€œBogor bowlers bowled very tight and did well to restrict us to 166 runs. But with a heavy outfield and our bowling unit, I was confident that the chase would not be easy. We had been consistent throughout and it has been a satisfying season for us'€, remarked WISCI'€™s Captain William.

Bogor'€™s captain Scott Masson was graceful in defeat. '€œWISCI once again has been the benchmark for the competition. We felt like we were in with a chance after bowling WISCI out, but this was soon crushed after a devastating display of fast bowling. We just failed in the final hurdle but were still standing tall in the end'€.

'€œThis year we had 17 teams '€“ the maximum number of teams ever participating. And it was great to see an Indonesian team make it to the finals. After the grand finals, we now have T20 championship starting from the first week in June'€, said JCA President Suresh Subramanian.
