he Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) has criticized the government's announcement of the increase in the health insurance contribution to be paid by employers, saying that the decision was made without Apindo's contribution.
The government had announced earlier the latest insurance contributions that should be paid by both employers and employees. The latest policy stipulates that employers pay 4 percent and the employees are obliged to pay 1 percent of the health insurance program provided by the Social Security Providers (BPJS).
Apindo wages and social security division head Hariyadi Sukamdani said on Tuesday that employers would announce their stance on the matter on Thursday after a tripartite meeting between business owners, employees and the government.
"I ask the government to respect the tripartite mechanism and not to issue misleading information that will do the public no good and in fact hampers the tripartite negotiation," he said in a press release made available to the The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Previously, Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Muhaimin Iskandar had said that employers had agreed to the 4 percent health insurance contribution.
The government had reached the decision to raise the BPJS premium to Rp 19,225 (USD1.94) from the previous Rp 15,000 per person per month. From this amount, according to the government, employers had agreed to pay 4 percent with employees paying 1 percent.
The remainder is to be paid by other stakeholders such as PT Jamsostek and national state insurance firm PT Askes.(fan/dic)
