School student hospitalized after beating

A

nine-year-old school student with the initials RS, who attends Pondok Sukmajaya 5 elementary school in Depok, was taken to hospital on Wednesday after being badly beaten two days earlier by some of his classmates.

The boy was rushed to Hasanah Graha Afiah (HGA) General Hospital after vomiting several times. Accompanied by his parents, the boy reported the beating to the police.

'€œMy classmates beat me several times on Monday when I tried to defend my younger sister after they verbally insulted her,'€ RS told The Jakarta Post at the hospital on Thursday.

'€œThree of my classmates dragged me to the schoolyard, while two others beat me repeatedly on my stomach and legs,'€ he added.

He said he had not reported the attack to his teacher because he was intimidated by the attackers. However, he began to suffer sharp pains in his stomach and on Wednesday morning, he threw up several times and began to feel faint.

'€œMy parents finally took me to hospital,'€ he said.

Based on a preliminary physical examination at the hospital, RS had suffered bruises to his stomach and spine.

Sukmajaya police subdistrict chief Comr. Agus Widodo said his personnel were investigating the case.
