Celebrating his 30 years in music, accomplished composer, arranger and songwriter Yovie Widianto is set to perform in a concert titled '€œIrreplaceable'€ on Sept. 24 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

The concert will present numerous artists singing Yovie'€™s work, including Kahitna, Yovie & Nuno, 5 Romeo, Raisa, Andien, Marcel Siahaan, Rio Febrian, RAN and Alexa. First appearing on the music scene as a finalist in the Indonesian Popular Song Festival in 1987, he was named '€œBest Composer'€ in the Young Stars International Festival in Taiwan in 1991. Yovie rose to fame when his group, Kahitna, released its first album in 1997, with the band'€™s characteristic fusion of jazz, pop and Latin sounds. Film

As a part of a series of events themed '€œCulture and Conflict'€, the German cultural center GoetheHaus in Menteng, Central Jakarta, will screen Spielzeugland - a movie by Jochen A. Freydank - on Sept. 29. Set in Germany in 1942, it tells of the Meissners family and their neighbors who are Jews and are fearing deportation. The two sons, Heinrich and David are best friends and cannot understand that they will be separated soon, not knowing that in reality they are facing deportation to a concentration camp. The short film shows how the violence of the Nazis affected all parts of society, without having to show any violent acts itself.

Dance

The state railway company KAI will hold an exhibition about the history of Indonesian Railways at the Dutch cultural center Erasmus Huis in Kuningan, South Jakarta starting Sept. 24 until Oct. 20. The exhibition, organized in cooperation with KAI'€™s conservation and heritage center, will outline the history of the railways in the archipelago. The exhibition will consist of photographs, maps, texts and miniature replicas. A documentary will also be shown during the exhibition.
