he Jambi District Court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison in a human trafficking case involving underage girls.
Said Mustafa, the defendant, was also fined Rp 120 million (US$10,662) or an additional four months in prison, presiding judge Mahfuddin said on Thursday. Mahfuddin said Said had violated the Child Protection Law as well as the Human Trafficking Eradication.
The verdict was lighter than the 12 years sought by law prosecutors. Said was arrested at a gas station in the Kebun Jeruk area while he was waiting for a customer who had planned on buying a girl from him.
Cahayawati, Said's lawyer, said that she objected to the verdict. 'The victim [the girl] herself was not forced to do it. She asked my client to get her a customer,' Cahayawati said.
