Mandiri Sekuritas eyes fifth place next year

S

ecurities company PT Mandiri Sekuritas, a subsidiary of state-owned biggest lender Bank Mandiri, is aiming to be the fifth-biggest brokerage company next year.

Currently, Mandiri Sekuritas is seventh in terms of equity transactions, according to the company's capital market director Laksono Widodo. Its daily transactions totaled Rp 517 billion during the January to August period with a 3.7 percent market share.

"To be among the top five, the minimum transaction should be around Rp 700 billion with a market share of around 4 percent," Laksono said on Thursday.

In an attempt to lure more investors, Mandiri Sekuritas is planning an event called Indonesia Corporate Day in London on Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 when the company will arrange meetings between 14 Indonesian companies and 150 investors from the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The 14 companies are diversified miner PT Aneka Tambang, Bank Mandiri, Bank Tabungan Negara, coal miner PT Bukit Asam, national flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia, toll road firm PT Jasa Marga, gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, telecommunications giant PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, cement maker PT Semen Indonesia, construction firm PT Wijaya Karya, energy company PT ABM Investama, property developer PT Lippo Karawaci, telecommunications tower operator PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure and developer PT Ciputra Development.

The event would be the second from Mandiri Sekuritas, which saw its rank jump to a current seventh biggest from 10th last year.

"Although we are now seeing pressure in the market, there remain opportunity as Indonesia's economic growth will be still above 5 percent and domestic demand keeps growing," Mandiri Sekuritas president director Abiprayadi Riyanto said.
