total of 22 undocumented immigrants from various Middle Eastern countrieshave died after the boat carrying them got stranded off  the Agrabinta waters in Cianjur regency on Friday, apolice officer has said.

'€œThe death toll has reached 22 and 25 people were brought to safety,'€ Agrabinta Police spokesman Haris Bachtiar said as quoted by Tribunnews.com on Saturday.

Ubaidillah At Tamami or Ubed, 34, a resident of Kampung Cimapag in Sinarlaut village, Agrabinta district, said a team that comprised the local police, Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) were combing the area to find more victims.

Ubed said that of the 25 survivors, 22 were men and three were women. All of them have been evacuated to Kampung Cikole, Sinarlaut.  Meanwhile, he added, the 22 dead victims consisted of eight men and 14 women.(hrl/dic)
