wo students from state junior high school SMPN 18 in Semarang, Central Java, died on Tuesday afternoon after the motorbike they were riding hit a parked truck on Jl. Gatot Subroto.
The students have been identified as Rizal Bagaskara, 13, who was driving the motorbike, and Adam Gani Quratun Ain, 14, who was riding pillion. Rizal died on his way to a hospital while Adam died at the scene.
An eye witness, Sareh, said that Rizal seemed to be trying to overtake a truck but did not realize that another truck was parked along the curb when he did so. As a result, he crashed into the parked truck.
'[Rizal] did not have a driver's license because he was still underage,' Semarang Traffic Police chief Adj. Comr. Slamet said on Wednesday.
Responding to the accident, Semarang Education Agency head Bunyamin called on parents to prevent their children from driving motor vehicles.
