S. Africa ambassador keen to promote Surakarta back home

outhAfrica Ambassador for Timor Leste and ASEAN, Dr. Noel N. Lehoko acknowledgedthat he was very enthusiastic about his visit to Surakarta.He, infact, said that he would be very keen to promote the town back home.

Theambassador was welcomed by the Surakarta deputy mayor Achmad Purnomo at themayor'€™s office on Wednesday.

'€œIhope that this visit will tighten the relationship between Surakartaand South Africa'€, Achmad said.

Hethen took the ambassador to visit several popular tourist destinationslike the Kauman village, home to famous batik clothingand the Surakarta royal palace. He added that it was greatly
expectedthat the ambassador would get to know Batik more.

Commentingon the visit, Ambassador Noel said that he had been very familiarwith batik clothing as he witnessed South Africa patron NelsonMandela wearing batik shirts everyday during his presidency.

'€œSurakartahas been very famous, even in South Africa. As for the batik,we have been very familiar with it as Nelson Mandela also wore batikduring his presidency,'€ he said.

Hesuggested that both regions could initiate various programs like studentexchange, tourism promotion and waste management to materializefurther cooperation.(dic)
