undreds of An Nadzir followers performed Idul Adha prayers in the middle of oil palm plantations in Kampung Mawang, Gowa regency, South Sulawesi, on Monday morning.
An Nadzir leader Ustadz Lukman said An Nadzir followers determined the change of months in the Hijriyah (Islamic) calendar by observing the rise and fall of sea levels and the moon.
'Based on our calculations, we're sure that Idul Adha falls today [Monday],' Lukman said in Makassar as quoted by kompas.com.
Members of the An Nadzir community are instantly recognizable with their unique style, according to which men usually wear black cloaks and turbans and have their hair dyed blonde, while the women wear black veils.
Lukman said An Nadzir followers had slaughtered two head of cattle for Idul Adha (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) this year. (ebf)
