he General Elections Commission (KPU) said that it had fixed the technical glitch in gathering data for the voters' list for the 2014 legislative elections and would be announcing the provincial and national final voters' lists (DPT) within a week.
KPU commissioner Ferry Kurnia Rizkiyansyah said the poll body had fixed the duplication of data concerning 900,000 voters.
He said the commission was currently working to fix data on another 450,000 voters.
But aside from the problems, the KPU is set to meet its deadline of announcing the final voters' list by the end of this month.
'All of Indonesia's 497 regencies and municipalities have published their DPTs, except for Nduga regency in Papua because of a communal conflict in the area,' Ferry said.
The KPU is expected to announce the final provincial and national DPTs on Oct. 18 and Oct. 23, respectively.
'We are monitoring the situation with the KPUD [Provincial General Elections Commission] in Papua closely. Within two or three days, the Nduga KPUD will follow suit. We hope that all data from all regencies and provinces will match that of the national level,' he added.
Ferry added, however, that not all the data from the KPUDs had been entered into the KPU database.
'There are 187 million eligible voters in total, of which 183 million have been entered into our system. We are still waiting for data on around 2 million voters from Central Java; data on around 700,000 from West Papua; around 200,000 from South Sumatra, and between 500,000 and 1 million from North Sumatra,' he said.
The KPU has also entered data from 120 out of 130 Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) offices.
The poll body estimated that there were 1.99 million voters based overseas.
'We have received data from the 10 remaining PPLNs, but we have yet to enter it into our system. The 10 PPLNs are located in Bern in Switzerland; Beijing in China; Berlin and Frankfurt in Germany; Copenhagen in Denmark; Mexico; Oslo in Norway; Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea; Stockholm in Sweden, and Rangoon in Myanmar,'
Ferry said.
According to data from the Home Ministry, there are around 190 million potential voters, while KPU data records around 187 million eligible voters.
Ferry said the mismatch would not create a serious problem.
'The numbers from the ministry and the KPU do not need to be the same. If the final data on the DPT is 187 million, as we expect, it means that our data has a difference of 3 million compared to the ministry's 190 million and that's not a problem,' Ferry said.
He said the difference in the data numbers between the ministry and the KPU could be caused by deaths, changes in address and other factors.
'The data that will be used in the election is that belonging to the KPU. We merely use data from the ministry as a comparison,' he said. (hrl)
