he Muarojambi regency administration will be allocating Rp 3 billion (US$271,000) to build the Batanghari III Bridge, which will link Muarojambi and Jambi city.
The new bridge, which will cross over the Batanghari River, is expected to become a second icon in the regency, after the Muarojambi Temple.
'The existence of the new bridge will shorten travel times. Road users heading to Sabak Port or vice versa will save more time as they will not have to cross the Batanghari I Bridge,' said Muarojambi Regent Burhanuddin Mahir on Friday.
He said the new bridge would primarily be aimed at road users who were transporting heavy loads, such as mined products or industrial goods.
'All trucks carrying heavy loads will be required to take the new bridge,' Burhanuddin said.
He said the Batanghari I Bridge could no longer bear the weight of passing heavy-load vehicles.
'You may notice that the Batanghari I Bridge, which is now 20 years old, gets a bit shaky when large trucks cross it,' he said.
'We don't want to wait until the bridge collapses; if that happened, Muarojambi would be totally isolated,' he added.
