The city administration will host the Kampung Betawi festival in West Jakarta this weekend.
'Kampung Betawi was aimed at promoting Kota Tua as one of our main tourism attractions and cultural heritage sites,' Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Agency head Arie Budhiman said at City Hall on Wednesday.
The event will be held simultaneously with the Kota Tua Festival, which was hosted by West Jakarta municipality.
'There will be a culinary festival and bazaar,' he said.
During the festival, visitors will be able to learn of the history that shaped the Betawi people.
'The ambiance of a Betawi village will be presented through art and cultural performances. Visitors will learn how Chinese, Malay and Arab culture influenced Betawi people,' he said.
The city administration allocated Rp 1 billion to the event and expected 10,000 visitors would be attracted to the two-day event.
The city plans to make the festival an annual event.
