ome 1350 participants from 19 countries joined the fifth Jogja International Heritage Walk (JIHW), organized by the Jogja Walking Association (JWA) over the weekend at Prambanan Temple in Sleman and in Imogiri, Bantul.
The participants, according to JWA vice chairperson Dahlia Puspasari, included 350 foreigners and 159 were from Japan.
The opening ceremony was held at the temple's Brahma Square at about 7 a.m. The walk was divided into three groups: five kilometers, 10 kilometers and 20 kilometers.
Walkers on Saturday meandered around the ancient temple's grounds as well as residential areas, allowing them to marvel at the biggest Hindu temple in Indonesia as well have a glimpse into the daily lives of locals.
After the walk, participants enjoyed music at the Brahma Square and played various traditional games such as gasing and egrang (stilt walking) provided by Komapoeng Dolanan Nusantara.
On Sunday, participants walked through the villages in Imogiri and enjoyed the beautiful nuances of the locals.
'We also distributed traditional Javanese snacks at every check point,' Dahlia said.
