bout40 urban planning experts and academics as well as 2,000 delegates from countriesincluding Brazil, China, Colombia, India, the Netherlands, the UK, the US andhost Russia will gather in Moscow from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7 for theannual Moscow Urban Forum.
The organizers said this year's forum would focus on the international experience in relation to developing areas beyond city centers and also on the issues and potential of Moscow's outer areas. The forum's program will be based on the SPACE principle, which involves examining the issues and potential of a city in five basic areas: S ' sociology, P ' politics, A ' architecture, С ' culture and E ' economics.
Due to the rapid development of big cities across the world, urban planning is concerned with the majority, with ordinary citizens' quality of life, work and leisure. The growth of these big cities and their complications creates problems of, for instance, social disintegration and crime.
'We are compiling the event's program in such a way so that Russian and international experts, delegations from the world's largest megacities, members of the Moscow government and the federal authorities, as well as representatives of business, will participate in each discussion. The forum's main objective is to unite theory and practice, and to achieve a dialogue between the state and business in order to resolve socially significant issues,' the general director of the Moscow Urban Forum, Olga Papadina, said on the organizer's website.
The forum will be opened by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Last year's event was participated in by 1,800 delegates from 35 countries, featuring 127 speakers.
