NTB Police foil 25 illegal migrants

T

he West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Police foiled on Wednesday evening an attempt to send 25 allegedly illegal migrant workers to Saudi Arabia.

NTB Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. M Suryo Saputro said the illegal workers, all of whom were women and came from Lombok and Sumbawa islands, were apprehended at Lembar Port in West Lombok.

'€œThey planned to take a bus and then a ferry to get to Bali before heading to Jakarta. When our officers who were stationed at the port checked their papers, it turned out that they only had their KTPs [national identity cards],'€ Suryo said on Thursday.

The trip was arranged by a person who is currently being sought by police. '€œWe are still trying to trace them. They had promised the women employment in Saudi Arabia following training in Condet, Jakarta,'€ Suryo added.
