Proficient communication skills play a significant role in the development of an individual
roficient communication skills play a significant role in the development of an individual. Language is a tool to express yourself. It is a medium to propagate your ideas and thoughts to the masses and the people who act as a key to the lock of your success. Indisputably, English is a language that transcends the barrier of regions and countries.
It is truly a global language, which is understood if not spoken in almost all parts of the world. English is a language, which bridges the gaps between societies, cultures and ethnicities and countries. To ban the English language from the curriculum is not a prudent step taken by the government, especially when it welcomes foreign investors and companies to its land.
The knowledge and proficiency of English language escalates the number of opportunities for youth of Indonesia to get better positions in these companies.
English should be learned and taught not only in Jakarta but in the rural regions as well, as students from all strata of society should be given an equal opportunity to learn, grow and succeed as global professionals.
Capabilities of rural children to learn and adopt this language should not be underestimated.
An interesting trend to be noticed is that, on one hand the administration is banishing this foreign language as a compulsory subject or is giving it less weight by making it an optional extracurricular subject and on the other hand Jakarta and its satellite towns are witnessing the mushrooming growth of institutes teaching English language. This means parents understand the importance of their children learning English.
English is the only language that provides you with the common platform to perform and progress in the bigger arenas. If you are able to communicate and persuade your ideas successfully to the world then the sky is your limit. Don't put shackles on the feet of children, rather give them wings and rejoice in the heights of their incessant flight.
