T

he Golkar Party's deputy chairman, Agung Laksono, has said that his party had not yet thought about who would be the running mate to the party'€™s presidential candidate, Aburizal Bakrie.

'€œWe will first focus on the legislative election and wait to see the results. [The vice presidential nomination] will depend on them. We already have our presidential candidate, Aburizal Bakrie,'€ he said in Semarang, Central Java, on Saturday as quoted by Antara news agency.

As chairman of Kosgoro 1957, a mass organization affiliated with Golkar, Agung urged all the party's legislative candidates to fight for Golkar's victory in the 2014 legislative election.

He said the votes obtained by its legislative candidates would dictate Golkar'€™s next step as high achievement would be a '€œticket'€ for the party in facing the following challenge: the 2014 presidential election.

'€œIf we do not obtain more than 20 percent of seats at the House of Representatives, then it will be difficult for us looking ahead to the presidential election,'€ Agung said.

'€œGolkar's legislative candidates must work hard to win votes.'€

Agung added that Aburizal'€™s running mate could come either from within the party or another political party, depending on the votes obtained in the legislative election. (ebf)
