ome 500 drivers and conductors from Trans-Musi bus rapid transit (BRT) staged a rally on Wednesday in Palembang, South Sumatra, demanding that management pay their salaries.
One of the drivers, Herman, said the workers had yet to receive their December salaries. Moreover, they had been receiving their salaries in installments since August.
'Sometimes we only get half our salaries, sometimes 20 percent or even only 15 percent,' he said during a rally at the Palembang City Council.
A driver's salary is Rp 2.6 million per month (US$212.50) while a conductor earns Rp 2.1 million.
A member of the Palembang City Council's Commission II, Fatur Rahman, told the workers that the council would summons the city-owned PT Sarana Pembangunan Palembang Jaya (SP2J), which manages Trans-Musi BRT.
He said Trans-Musi received a subsidy of Rp 850 million per month in the 2014 city budget, and told the workers to resume working on Thursday.
