Lion Air Boeing 737-900 due to fly from Semarang toJakarta was forced to abort its take-off after one of its wheels became trappedin the asphalt of the apron of Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang onWednesday.
'The [plane] is mired in the asphalt on the west apron, not on the runaway,' the airport's general affairs and communications head Anom Fitranggono was quoted by Antara as saying.
Anom said the wheel was caught in a subsided section of the apron. 'Although attempts were made to tow the plane out, it was stuck fast.'
As a consequence, he said, the flight, which had been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., was delayed. 'The passengers were asked to disembark and the baggage was unloaded.'
However, he said the plane was later successfully removed and departed at 1.30 p.m.
