Lion Air Boeing 737-900 due to fly from Semarang toJakarta was forced to abort its take-off after one of its wheels became trappedin the asphalt of the apron of Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang onWednesday.

'€œThe [plane] is mired in the asphalt on the west apron, not on the runaway,'€ the airport'€™s general affairs and communications head Anom Fitranggono was quoted by Antara as saying.

Anom said the wheel was caught in a subsided section of the apron. '€œAlthough attempts were made to tow the plane out, it was stuck fast.'€

As a consequence, he said, the flight, which had been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., was delayed. '€œThe passengers were asked to disembark and the baggage was unloaded.'€

However, he said the plane was later successfully removed and departed at 1.30 p.m.
