wish to bring to your readers' attention a new scam being carried out by travelers from Jakarta to Singapore.
A colleague of mine landed at Changi Airport, Singapore on Jan. 7 and was just in time to witness two fellow travelers from the same flight loading his suitcase onto their trolley. When questioned they acted innocent and said it was a mistake as his bag was similar to theirs.
Not entirely believing them he stood back to observe further. The two said passengers then collected three suitcases and proceeded through the green lane to the arrival hall. None of the three suitcases were close in similarity to that of my colleague so he called security. The two said passengers were apprehended and taken away.
One could surmise that the three suitcases the passengers collected were also not theirs.
This may well be a new modus operandi and not simply an isolated case, so we all need to be wary. Although all bags are X-rayed on arrival at Changi prior to them being loaded to the baggage
carousel, very seldom are passengers required to go through the 'red lane' and produce bag tags.
