For the benefit of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), zoo/park owners and staff
or the benefit of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), zoo/park owners and staff. If you were to follow these five freedoms ' and why wouldn't you? ' you would go a long way toward alleviating animal suffering in Indonesian zoos and safari parks.
It's not a lot to provide to animals that are unable to help themselves, is it? If you care, you will adopt the five freedoms. If you don't instigate the five freedoms you will know you truly don't care about cruelty to animals and you are in the wrong job. They are:
Freedom from hunger and thirst, through ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
Freedom from discomfort, by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
Freedom from pain, injury or disease, through prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Freedom to express normal behavior, by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
Freedom from fear and distress, by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
