Hiker dies on Mount Salak

ne student died and nine others were hospitalized on Tuesday for exposure to extreme weather conditions while climbing to the top of Mount Salak in Bogor regency.

Helmi Dwi Aprianto, a 19-year-old student at the Social and Political Sciences Institute (IISIP) in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, reportedly died from exposure to cold weather. The nine other students were still receiving intensive treatment at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Hospital in Bogor.

Doly, a survivor, said they had been on the mountain since Jan. 15 as part of an activity for an outdoor group.

'€œThe incident took place the fifth day on Tuesday when we were reaching the mountain'€™s peak.'€

Doly said the rainy and windy weather conditions were extreme.

Helmi'€™s body was handed over to his family for burial in Bojong Gede on Wednesday.
The police are still investigating his death.
