Another earthquake jolts Yogyakarta

A

n earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Yogyakarta late on Monday night, causing panic among some locals due to their traumatic experiences following the devastating earthquake that hit the city in 2006.

According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency'€™s (BMKG) Yogyakarta office, the epicenter of Monday'€™s quake was located 68 kilometers to the southwest of Kebumen regency, Central Java, at a depth of 33 km.

'€œI was about to go to bed when I felt the quake. I promptly ran out of the house, taking my child with me,'€ Haryadi, of Sewon, Bantul, said on Tuesday.

Previously last Thursday, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake rocked Yogyakarta and several other regions in Central Java, followed by a 4.7-magnitude post-quake tremor on Saturday.
