angerang Mayor Arief S. Wismansyah said that the Public Works Ministry had earmarked Rp1.9 billion to restore the Cisadane River. He said work on the project would begin next year and would be completed in 2018.
'This is our top priority since building a connection between the Ciliwung and Cisadane rivers is already off the table,' he said.
He said the ministry planned to construct retaining walls along the river to prevent water-level increases from inundating surrounding areas. The Tangerang administration, he went on, would procure the land while the ministry would execute the project.
Besides the Cisadane River, the ministry also plans to restore three other rivers, the Labi, Ledug and Angke rivers.(dic)
