outh Tangerang Mayor Airin Rachmi Diani said her administration's request for a new regency-level police office had been denied by the Home Ministry, despite the increasing number of crimes committed within the new municipality's borders.
'The establishment of a new police office is entirely up to the central government,' Airin, whose husband is currently detained on graft charges, said on Tuesday.
However, she said that she refused to give up and that efforts to lobby the Jakarta Police office and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) were ongoing.
'We will go all out to realize the idea,' she said.
Right now, police officers stationed in South Tangerang still answer to two different police offices, the South Jakarta Police office and the Tangerang Regency Police office. The establishment of a new police office, she went on, would improve coordination.(dic)
