'He has been charged with violating Law No.12/1951 on possession of illegal firearms for carrying ammunition,' Papua Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Sulistio Pudjo said in Jayapura on Friday.
Police officers arrested KDM, who was waiting at Sentani Airport for a connecting flight to Nabire, after discovering eight 8.4 mm caliber bullets in his luggage.
During questioning, KDM insisted that he was innocent and that the ammunition belonged to a friend.
Pudjo said the police were continuing their investigations to determine who owned the ammunition. He added that bullets of the same caliber were often used by members of the separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM). (krb)
