SBY inaugurates eight new envoys

P

resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonoinaugurated eight new ambassadors at the Presidential Palace on Friday. A number of senior officials, including Vice PresidentBoediono and National Police chief Sutarman, also attended the ceremony.

Comr. Gen. (ret) Ito Sumardi becomes ambassador to Myanmar and will reside in the capital, Yangoon. Ito was formerly National Police crime detectives chief, replacing Comr. Gen. (ret) Susno Duadji, who is now serving time in prison for graft.

Former secretary-general at the Foreign Ministry, Budi Bowoleksono, is installed as ambassador to the United States and will be leaving for Washington. Budi was once questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness in a graft case concerning budget missapropriation at the Foreign Ministry.

Irmawan Emir Wisnandar becomes the ambassador for Laos and will reside in Vientine, while Lt. Gen. (ret) Johnny Lumintang, former Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) chief, has been installed as ambassador to the Philippines, Marshall Island and Palau Island, and will be based in Manila. 

Abdurrachman Mohammad Fachir, as the new ambassador to Saudi Arabia, will reside in Riyadh. The new ambassador for Sudan is Burhanuddin and he will be based in Khartoum. Moenir Ari Soenanda will lead the embassy in Peru and Bolivia and vill reside in Lima.

Suprapto Martosetomo has been installed as the new ambassador for South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana, and he will be based in Pretoria.(dic)
