The head of Jambi's Investment and Integrated Licensing Agency, Hefni Zen, said a consortium comprising Korea South-East Power (KOSEP) and PT Tebo Agung had prepared to draw up a pre-feasibility study with a March deadline.
The consortium will first report the pre-feasibility study results to the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), and only after that will the project's feasibility study be drawn up.
'If we look at the progress achieved so far, it is likely that the project tender could take place at the end of this year,' said Hefni.
Indonesia and South Korea last year signed an agreement on the development of the power plant which will use low-calorie coal and have a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) x 2.
The consortium has reportedly asked Jambi Governor Hasan Basri Agus to become both initiator and guarantor of the development of PLTU Tebo. This would mean that, if any challenges hampered the work of the consortium, the governor would have the authority to question or apply pressure to address the problems.
