T Gendhis Multi Manis's (GMM) newly completed sugar millis expected to produce up to 5 percent of the 5.75 million tons of nationalsugar demand.
'We will produce about 600 tons of sugar per day; we will receive 4,000 truckloads of sugarcane from farmers per day, which is roughly 6,000 tons,' GMM president director Kamadjaja told The Jakarta Post in Semarang on Thursday. The Rp 1.55 trillion (US$133.5 million) sugar mill will start operating on May 20 and will employ 1,000 workers and cooperate with 16,000 Blora regency farmers.
The country's sugar companies have been unable to meet the national sugar demand, forcing the government to import.
According to Kamadjaja, GMM will get 64 percent of the mills profits while the farmers will get 36 percent. Companies take a higher percentage of the profits, 70 percent, and 30 percent for the farmers
