National Police chief Gen
ational Police chief Gen. Sutarmanhas appointed Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Putut Eko Bayuseno as the newhead of the National Police's security maintenance division, replacing Comr. Gen. BadrodinHaiti who has been appointed the new deputy National Police chief.
Badrodin previously replaced Comr. Gen. Oegreseno when he retired.
According to a confidential telegram issued on Friday, following Putut's appointment, Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyatno has been assigned to lead the Jakarta Police.
Replacing Dwi in Central Java is Brig. Gen. Noer Ali, who currently leads the West Sumatra Police.
The head of the National Police's law drafting and counseling bureau, Brig. Gen. Bambang Sri Herwanto, is due to assume the West Sumatra Police chief post.
Putut previously served as adjutant to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2009 before leading police forces in Banten in Feb. 2011 and West Java in May 2011.
The 52-year-old general has served as Jakarta Police chief, one of the most prestigious positions in the force, since Oct. 2012.
Given his track record and ties with Yudhoyono, Putut was once seen as a leading contender to become National Police chief, replacing then-chief Gen. Timur Pradopo. However, Sutarman achieved the top post in October last year.
