atot Supiartono, theformer Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) senior auditor, stood trial at the CentralJakarta District Court on Wednesday for the premeditated murder of his secondwife Holy Angela Hayu at Kalibata City apartment in South Jakarta onSept. 30, 2013.
The trial only lasted 15 minutes and was adjourned until Wednesday next week.
'We understand the indictment read by the prosecutor,' Alfrian Bondjol, the defendant's accompanying lawyer, said as quoted by tempo.co.
Gatot has been charged with violating multiple articles of the Criminal Codes on premeditated murder and premeditated torture, which combined carried a maximum sentence of capital punishment.
Gatot stands accused of organizing the execution of Holy at her apartment in Kalibata City. He was in Australia on an official visit when his wife was tortured to death at her apartment.
It is alleged that Holy was murdered over what Gatot deemed as Holy's never ending request for financial assistance. Besides Gatot, the police had also arrested his sidekicks, Abdul Latif and Pago. (dic)
