ormer Democratic Party chairmanAnas Urbaningrum has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to lookinto the party's 2009 financial report as he suspects that it containsfictitious donors.
He said that an independent financial auditor hired to verify the party's financial report had first informed him of the fictitious donors.
'I know that some of the donors weren't really donating money to us. However, the money was real, therefore I invite the KPK to look into it and to also find out whether these 'donations' were related to the Century bank bailout case,' Anas told journalists after being grilled at KPK headquarters on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.
According to Anas, the party had received Rp 232 billion (U$ 20.3 million) from the donors.
Commenting on Anas' statement, former Democratic Party spokesman Ruhut Sitompul said Anas was delusional. He said there was nothing wrong with the 2009 financial report.
'We directly reported all financial data to be audited and we saw nothing suspicious in the report,' he said. (dic)
