Candidates asked to submit bank account numbers

L

egislative candidates running for office havebeen requested to submit their bank account numbers to prevent money launderingpractices ahead of the legislative election.

'€œWe had earlier asked the General Elections Commission [KPU] to do this, but it turns out the law doesn'€™t require them to do that,'€ head of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) Muhammad Yusuf said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the PPATK had built its own database that would give it access to information regarding the candidates.

However, he added, the information in the database would be more solid if the candidates submitted their bank account numbers.

'€œWe strongly advise them to report their account details because one way or another we will see the accounts.'€(idb/dic)
