If you want to be safe while commuting, you need to demand employee buses from your employers.

Most cities have areas that are dangerous for women at night, not just Jakarta. Look at India, how many rapes are reported per day. Even in Melbourne, Australia, we have murders every week, and a lot of sex crimes too.

No city is immune '€” a sad reflection of society, but at least in other countries the police investigate forever. My dealings with police here leave me with a different outlook. Sad but true.

Poor education and upbringing are the basic causes of violence against women.

A poor upbringing at home is reflected not only in men'€™s lack of respect for women in the workplace but is also apparent in buses when a man won'€™t give his seat to a standing pregnant woman. You really feel like tossing a glass of water on a such man'€™s head to wake up his sleeping conscience.

An uneducated husband who becomes sleepy and tired due to not being able to feed his cigarette addiction (additional nicotine) becomes so lazy, making him unwilling to help his wife with heavy chores. And when his wife demands he do his share of the household chores, he forgets he is facing his own wife and before he realizes it, he slaps her face, making her feel very bad and starting enmity at home, leading to uncomfortable family atmosphere.

Educated people know how to control themselves in conversations among society so as not to hurt each other.

Self-control is what many are lacking, creating enmity among the less educated where women (usually their wives) are the recipients of stupidly careless husbands'€™ abuse. These husbands indeed need a proper education that they did not get from their parents. Parents'€™ behavior toward each other has a lot of bearing on the children at home, the results of which can be observed in elementary schools.

Yes, we still have a lot to learn. In the meantime, our government doesn'€™t seem to care about the people highly dependent on nicotine. This should indeed be addressed by the new government.
