he World Bank has ended a program aimed at supporting peace and development in the province, titled Consolidating Peaceful Development in Aceh (CPDA).
'The CPDA program ended in December 2013 but its official close will be conducted in the middle of this month,' World Bank social development specialist Adrian Morel said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said CPDA was a multi-donor program established by the bank with financial support from the Royal Netherlands Embassy and Australian Aid/Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The total funds of the program, which was conducted from January 2010, reached US$7.5 million.
Morel said the CPDA program aimed to strengthen institutional partnerships to support peace and development in Aceh.
'CPDA is based on the principle that ending the cycle of violence in a conflict area requires the development of institutions that are strong and have legitimacy,' said Morel.
In carrying out the CPDA program, he said the bank had partnered with a number of local, national and international NGOs and universities.
Among partnership activities was a public spending analysis program jointly conducted by the bank and the University of Syiah Kuala to improve the management of public funds and to advocate for budget transparency.
The CPDA also developed forest peripheral communities, provided legal training and established legal clinics in Aceh Besar regency and North Aceh regency. (ebf)
