armers grouped under the Central Java Andalan Fishermen and Farmers Community (KTNA) are worried about a urea fertilizer shortage, which has been going on for the last three months.
KTNA chairman Agus Eko Cahyono said that if the situation continued, harvests would fail.
'Without urea, the plants are vulnerable against pests,' Agus said in Semarang, Tuesday, adding that the regencies of Sragen, Demak, Semarang and Grobogan also had insufficient fertilizer.
Separately, Central Java marketing area manager of fertilizer producer PT Pusri, Sutisna, denied there was a scarcity in the province.
He said the distribution of fertilizer was based on verification from the Agricultural Agency. If farmers were not on the list, they would not get subsidized fertilizer.
'Distributors will not assign fertilizer without a recommendation from the agency,' Sutisna said.
