Jakarta International School (JIS) head of school Timothy Carr says it has not received any more reports of sexual assault after a kindergarten pupil was allegedly molested
akarta International School (JIS) head of school Timothy Carr says it has not received any more reports of sexual assault after a kindergarten pupil was allegedly molested.
"We haven't had any reports of similar cases recently. The last [incident] was 17 years ago. There was no investigation, however, and the case was closed," said Carr in a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He also denied the rumor that a teacher had been named by a student in a sexual harrasment case. 'No teacher has done such a thing,' Carr asserted.
He said JIS teachers were hired based on recommendations from embassies of three countries: Australia, the UK and the US.
'There should be no reason for students to be afraid of our teachers. They are good people and love the students,' said Carr.
'I trust the teachers and no teacher is involved in such a case,' he went on.
It was previously reported that a JIS kindergarten pupil had been sexually assaulted by several cleaners in a toilet at the school. Police have questioned several people and named two cleaners as suspects. (idb/ebf)
