The security arrangements will also be supported by Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, Community Protection (Linmas) officers and regional administrations.
'This will involve more than 1.6 million personnel,' said National Police chief Sutarman in Semarang on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He said it was hoped that the presidential election could run safely.
'Regarding election security plans, we have prepared everything. Measures to secure polling stations, voters and resource distribution have been prepared,' said Sutarman.
He said the legislative election, which took place on April 9, was considered to have gone well. However, he added that the police would continue to provide security until the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced the official results of the legislative election.
'The legislative election ran smoothly. Most ballot boxes and papers have been delivered to Regional Elections Commission (KPUD) offices. It is our [National Police] duty to provide security until the election results are announced,' he said. (idb/ebf)
